CYT Waco offers classes over the course of three sessions during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Weekly classes last for two hours and run for ten consecutive weeks. A variety of classes are offered in drama, voice, dance, and specialty classes that vary per session. Most of the classes are small to ensure personal attention and growth. At the end of a CYT session, students will come away with improved skills in an area of emphasis. During the last week of class, a high-energy showcase is presented by each class to demonstrate to other students, family members, and friends what they have learned.

Enrolled students, ages 8 – 18, have the opportunity to audition for a CYT Broadway-style musical! Younger students may serve as ushers at CYT shows, and students ages 13 and up may work on a backstage crew.

Current Teachers:

Jennie Smith

Jennie is so excited to be making her CYT Teacher debut! She moved to Waco from College Station in June of 2016, and is a homeschooling mother of 4 exuberant performers. She has been performing since she was 3, from singing and acting in performances at church, to choir and dance in middle school all the way thru college, where she studied Vocal Performance at Oral Roberts University. As an adult, she sang with and was a soloist for the Brazos Valley Chorale, used her extensive experience to teach music to K-10th graders at a private school, along with teaching private vocal lessons. Her passion for finding and teaching harmonies comes from her many years of both singing and accompanying worship in church, in addition to her performing experience. Jennie has directed and choreographed various productions at church, and brought those talents to us at CYT Waco last year when she was the Vocal Director for Seussical Jr. This season she joined us as Vocal Director and Co-Choreographer for School House Rock Live, and is currently the Choreographer for Into The Woods Jr., while also substituting and assistant teaching the Winter Class session for us! “I am so stoked to get to work with these amazing kids on a weekly basis as a CYT Waco teacher!”

Katy Ling

Katy Ling is new to the Central Texas area. She and her Husband both grew up and met in CYT San Diego. She has been involved in CYT shows since she was 10, taking dance, theater, vocal, improv, back stage, and stunts and combat classes. She went to a performing arts High School, and studied Dance and Musical theater for a time in College. When she turned 18 she started teaching with CYT, and started choreographing shows with CYT when she was 19. Katy has also danced with SDA Ballet, and traveled for 6 months with Up With People. Her experience in all aspects of Musical Theater have been extensive and she is so excited to be part of a new CYT Family!

Lexie Rains is a Junior BFA Theatre Performance major with a concentration in Musical Theatre and a minor in Music at Baylor. She has performed at Baylor University in “Crazy for You” and “The Amish Project”, and played Tracey in Waco Civic Theatre’s production of “Hairspray” last summer. Aside from performing, Lexie also has a passion for teaching. In high school, Lexie spent her summers teaching theatre camps at Tyler Civic Theatre. Once in college, she interned at ZACH theatre in Austin as an theatre education intern. Currently she teaches voice lessons and enjoys for music directing. Her music directing credits include “How To Succeed at Business Without Really Trying” and “Hands on a Hardbody” as well as several upcoming projects. Lexie is very excited to join the CYT family!

Paul Fair III

Paul has been acting since he was 10 years old, and has over 6 years professional performing experience with the Walt Disney Company, Nike, SeaWorld, and others. He has performed on Actor’s Equity stages, in front of a camera, in parades, even under the water at SeaWorld. He specializes in improv, and has helped bring to life over 20 different characters, ranging from Han Solo (Star Wars), to Flynn Rider to Captain Jack Sparrow, and even Kristoff from Frozen. Paul has also earned two certificates from the Harvard School of Business and was a Chancellor’s Leadership Class Scholar at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. With nine siblings, being a Summer School Instructor in Uganda and teaching theater in Jr. High and High Schools, Paul knows how to combine fun with hard work to develop talent. Paul’s first rule of acting? If it isn’t fun, it isn’t worth doing.

Phylan Peters-Bahkou

Phylan is proud mom of two CYT Kids and is a theater kid at heart! Phylan grew up in Fort Worth and was thrilled to find CYT Waco for her children to fall in love with the stage. It didn’t take long, thanks to CYT's amazing staff. Her daughter joined CYT classes during "Charlotte's Web" and hit the stage as soon as she could with "The Wizard of Oz" and has been active with CYT Waco ever since! Phylan soon joined by helping out backstage with costumes and props, she loves working with the amazing talents that our CYT Families brings to production. Phylan has a Bachelors Degree in Christian Ministry from Dallas Baptist University and is working on her Masters at Baylor's Truitt Seminary. Phylan brings with her a love for community theater and experience in the non-profit world. Phylan worked for the American Red Cross for several years and is now working for both CYT and in ministry with her husband.

Rebekah Schroeder

Rebekah Schroeder is a BFA in Theatre Education & BA in Christian Education, she grew up in a Christian home school environment and has been doing dance and theatre from an early age. Having thought everything from bread baking at age 10 to vaulting in summer camp, Rebekah natural bent towards teaching has always been evident. Her love of the arts and other kinesthetic endeavors has lead her on an exciting journey, providing her with a creative outlook and view as she seeks to become a stage director. Her Christian faith keeps her grounded as she steps into the world of fine arts and adds her voice to that of many before her. Hoping to be a light as she brings a new perspective to stage and Christian theatre. She has preformed in several plays and musicals such as Anne, Hello Dolly and Christmas Carol. Also Directing and assistant Director for shows like Twelfth Night, Teen Beach & Camp Awesome.

"It is aways a place where we can learn and grow in God and theatre."
