Fall 2018 Registration is closed! Join us for Winter session!

Join us!

CYT Waco offers classes over the course of three sessions during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Weekly classes last for two hours and run for ten consecutive weeks. A variety of classes are offered in drama, voice, dance, and specialty classes that vary per session. Most of the classes are small to ensure personal attention and growth. At the end of a CYT session, students will come away with improved skills in an area of emphasis. During the last week of class, a high-energy showcase is presented by each class to demonstrate to other students, family members, and friends what they have learned.

Enrolled students, ages 8 – 18, have the opportunity to audition for a CYT Broadway-style musical! Younger students may serve as ushers at CYT shows, and students ages 13 and up may work on a backstage crew.

Current Teachers:

Jennie Smith

Jennie is so excited to be teaching again this session! She moved to Waco from College Station in June of 2016, and is a homeschooling mother of 4 exuberant personalities. She has been performing since she was 3, from singing and acting in performances at church, to choir and dance in middle school all the way through college, where she studied Vocal Performance at Oral Roberts University. As an adult, she sang with and was a soloist for the Brazos Valley Chorale, used her extensive experience to teach music to K-10th graders at a private school, along with teaching private vocal lessons. Her passion for finding and teaching harmonies comes from her many years of both singing and accompanying worship in church, in addition to her performing experience. Jennie has directed and choreographed various productions at church, and brought those talents to us at CYT Waco in the Spring of 2017, when she was the Vocal Director for Seussical Jr. Last season her Artistic Team contributions were as Vocal Director and Co-Choreographer for School House Rock Live, Choreographer for Into The Woods Jr., and finished up the season Vocal Directing our Spring show, James and the Giant Peach. For our class sessions, she substituted and assistant taught during the Fall & Winter Class sessions and taught our musical theatre class, Tarzan, in the Spring. This summer she had a blast serving as a counselor during Trolls Camp and Vocal Directing our Greatest Show Camp! “I am over the moon about this upcoming session, and can't wait to see the kids after our long summer break! It's gonna be amazing!"

Lydia Tate

Lydia Tate teaches private voice, piano, & music theory from her home in Waco. With 3 boys and a full-time studio, the Tate family is new to the CYT family and excited about this adventure! Lydia loves to bring excitement, connection, and a love of great music into her instruction and she is looking forward to working with the CYT community this season!

Melissa Montgomery

Melissa Montgomery is a student at Baylor University currently studying curriculum and instruction. She holds her BA in Sociology and Educational Psychology. Melissa grew up in the music world with over 16 years in violin, viola, piano, and voice., Melissa is a member of Seventh and James Baptist Church here in Waco. In her first year of working with CYT, Melissa taught the Spring session of the Our Gang class as well as music in the Teen Idol camp over the summer. She is very excited to be a part of CYT and cannot wait to see how the program will grow in years to come.

Michelle Tate

Michelle Tate has loved living in Waco for the last two years. She has been working with children from ages 3 to 12 for the last 13 years. Her love for working with children encouraged her to pursue her degree in Early Childhood Development and she currently teaches at Parkview Christian Academy. Michelle has proudly been a part of CYT since her daughter Kaitlyn joined CYT last year and performed in her first production, Seussical, Jr. where she played both a jungle citizen and circus ringmaster. Katie was also on the Tech Crew for Into the Woods, Jr. and she played one of Lahdalord’s helpers in James and the Giant Peach. Michelle is excited to teach the younger generation of CYT, becuse she knows the greatest lessons a child can learn in any subject, start at a very young age.

Rebekah Schroeder

Rebekah Schroeder is a BFA in Theatre Education & BA in Christian Education, she grew up in a Christian home school environment and has been doing dance and theatre from an early age. Having thought everything from bread baking at age 10 to vaulting in summer camp, Rebekah natural bent towards teaching has always been evident. Her love of the arts and other kinesthetic endeavors has lead her on an exciting journey, providing her with a creative outlook and view as she seeks to become a stage director. Her Christian faith keeps her grounded as she steps into the world of fine arts and adds her voice to that of many before her. Hoping to be a light as she brings a new perspective to stage and Christian theatre. She has preformed in several plays and musicals such as Anne, Hello Dolly and Christmas Carol. Also Directing and assistant Director for shows like Twelfth Night, Teen Beach & Camp Awesome.

Sarah Robins

This will be Sarah's first session with CYT! She brings with her 15 years of tap, ballet, jazz, contemporary and Hip Hop. She assisted in choreographing her sorority's routine for stomp fest at Baylor. She also taught private dance lessons. Sarah has her Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor. She currently teaches 4th grade at West Elementary School. Sarah can't wait to see what CYT is like, and how she can plug in more.

Stephanie Gerath

Stephanie Gerath is the Artistic Director for CYT Waco. She has worked in both public and private educational settings for the last 8 years. She is very excited to bring her knowledge of Theater to CYT children! She brings with her many years of theatre experience including her most recent stage appearance in Waco Civic Theatre's production of "Les Miserables." She has also performed in other musicals such as "42nd Street" and "Bye Bye Birdie." She has also directed and designed many of CYT Waco's shows since "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown". She loves the technical side of theatre and has worked hard to build skills in costuming, set design, and stage makeup. Stephanie feels incredibly blessed to be on this amazing adventure with CYT.

"It is aways a place where we can learn and grow in God and theatre."
